Data protection information about the newsletter and MailChimp
By subscribing to our newsletter, you declare that you consent to receive the newsletter and to the procedures described below.
Content of the newsletter
We only send newsletters, emails and other electronic communication with promotional information (hereinafter the “newsletter”) if recipients have given their consent or it is legally permitted.
The subscription process – double opt-in and logging
Subscribing to our newsletter employs a “double opt-in” process. This means that after registering, you will receive an email in which you are asked to confirm your registration. This confirmation prevents anyone registering using an email address that is not theirs.
Subscriptions to the newsletter are logged so we can provide evidence that the registration process meets the legal requirements. This includes storing the times of registration and confirmation as well as the IP address.
Distribution service provider MailChimp
The newsletter is distributed by “MailChimp”, a newsletter distribution system belonging to US provider Rocket Science Group, LLC, 675 Ponce De Leon Ave NE #5000, Atlanta, GA 30308, USA.
The data of our newsletter recipients, namely the email addresses and all other data described in this notice are stored on the MailChimp servers in the USA.
MailChimp uses this information to distribute and evaluate the newsletter on our behalf. Furthermore, according to MailChimp, the system may use this data to optimise or improve its own services, e.g. technical optimisation of distribution and the newsletter’s presentation, or for commercial purposes, such as determining which countries the recipients come from. However, MailChimp will not use the data from our newsletter recipients to contact them directly or pass it on to third parties.
We trust the reliability and the IT and data security of MailChimp. MailChimp is certified under the US-EU data protection agreement “Privacy Shield” and therefore binds itself to complying with the EU data protection regulations. In addition, we have signed a “Data-Processing-Agreement” with MailChimp. By signing this agreement MailChimp is obliged: to protect the data of our users, to process the data on our behalf and in accordance with data protection regulations (e.g. GDPR Obligations effective from 25 May 2018), and in particular to not pass on the subscribers’ data to third parties. For MailChimp data protection provisions, see https://mailchimp.com/legal/privacy/.
You only need to provide your first name and email address in order to subscribe for the newsletter.
You can opt to include first name and email address in the form. This information is only used to personalise the newsletter.
We will never pass on your data to third parties.
Statistical compilation and analysis
Our newsletters contain “web beacons”. These are single-pixel gifs that with the help of MailChimp allow us to analyse how our newsletters are used. When you open the newsletter, information such as IP address, the browser and your email client is collected. MailChimp uses the data collected in this way to make technical improvements to the services.
For statistical analysis purposes, it also captures whether newsletters are opened, when they are opened, and which links are clicked. This information can be matched to individual newsletter recipients for technical purposes. The analysis of this data enables us to learn about the reading habits of our users and adjust the content in line with users’ interests.
Online retrieval and data management

You can revoke consent to this data protection information about the newsletter and MailChimp at any time, which cancels your subscription to our newsletter.
This also cancels your consent to distribution via MailChimp and statistical analyses. Unfortunately, it is not possible to revoke permission to statistical data collection while being subscribed.
Each newsletter contains a link cancel the newsletter at the end that allows you to unsubscribe. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter by clicking on the unsubscribe link provided at the end of the newsletter. You can also email firstname.lastname@example.org to update your email address, or to request that we delete your email.
Your data is kept with us in the relevant amount of time, that has been permitted by law. Your information will be deleted when they are no longer necessary.
