Charlottenlund, Denmark

Just north of Copenhagen, close to the forest and the sea, lies a wooden cabin in which 13-year-old Gilbert lives with his family.

Gilbert's room is a corner room with plenty of natural light and views to the garden. The white wooden logs make the colours in here pop, but somehow the look is still surprisingly calm, and the space has a cosy, Scandinavian feel.

Gilbert loves to draw, read and to collect all sorts of things making this an unusual but personal space.

Gilbert's bed, which is from Rafa Kids, is placed by the end of the room, with views to the garden through both windows.

Above the bed hangs a framed Babar a 50 Ans poster, and on the bed lies a Knitted Whale. The little stool is vintage and the light is from Vitra, designed by Japanese designer Isamu Noguchi.

A bright red silk print from Ai Weiwei, that was given to Gilbert on his 12th birthday, has been framed and now hangs between the shelf and the bed.

Below, a tote bag from Bonton (a similar one is available here) is used to store some of Gilbert's many comic and manga books that he enjoys to read before bedtime.

A vintage Alvar Aalto table was found on dba.dk and is placed by the window for lots of natural light.

In the background sits the Large Goose lamp, and in the window hangs a knitted flag garland with Danish flags, that has been in Gilbert's room since he was born, now 13 years ago in the USA.

Gilbert loves to draw using everything from water colours to crayons and pencils.

Also seen here: A magic spring, a small sand suitcase, and a Bunny Plate used to store coins and little knick-knacks.

The blue rug was found on Auctionet, while the yellow cushion is from Helle Høgsbro Krag.

On the door hangs a dartboard, and on the door handle hangs a pair of oak rings, that are easily attached to 2 hooks in the ceiling. Both dart and oak rings add a bit more fun to any rainy day staying indoor.

An unusual but delightful mix of things: A little elephant carved from wood from India sits next to Gilbert's GoPro camera, a Smithsonian plasma lamp and handmade figures made from toilet rolls and a cardboard egg tray.

Above hangs a poster from the Henry Miller Memorial Library in Big Sur, California.

Gilbert's drawings and art crafts are all over the place. The large, blue penguin was made years ago, while the ostrich-like monster with two heads on the table is a new creation.

Seen here in the window: A flag garland, and on the table sits a bunny plate, next to a Tolomeo lamp from Artemide.

Comics and manga books are some of Gilbert's favourites reads, and so are 18+ LEGO sets that take hours to build, and once done, are put on display on the top shelves.

Also seen here: A yellow mushroom lamp, the knitted cactus, sneakers from Bonton, a small green suitcase, and the Hot Dog Puzzle.

"I love my room, but if I could change one thing I would go for straight walls."

– Gilbert, 13 years old

The white shelf is from IKEA and is used to store everything from little figures made from the Funny Monster-Mix from Creativ Company, a house made of cards, more books and art supplies, and a Hot Dog Puzzle.

Gilbert's clothes are also stored here in baskets, to create a sense of order. Seen here is the Avala Sweater from Caramel and our own Cotton Pants, made from deadstock fabric sourced in Italy.

Desk view: A practical water colour set from Creativ Company that is easy to bring along on day trips sits next to a little box Gilbert made years ago from wooden sticks, LEGO figures in window sill, and a small suitcase where Gilbert stores some of his art supplies.

A large Goose Lamp adds a warm and cosy light a night time and is an eye catching and quirky object during the day. The lamp is placed on a Frame Stool with a yellow top, that also works as an extra seat when friends are over.

The bed cover is from Klippan, and the poster in the back was purchased when Gilbert was 2 years old, and he and his family lived in the USA.
