3-year-old Malte's room was all white as the family moved into their new house a couple of years ago. Loving colours, especially in the children's rooms, Malte's mother knew this space had to be colourful and bright.

Starting with a strip of wallpaper, the transition began, turning Malte's space into a fun, creative and cosy room with a hidden nook, great storage options and space on the floor for active play.

Malte's bed is placed in a cosy corner of the room, to the left of the window. Next to the bed, on the bed side table, is a small red mushroom lamp.

In front, MODU elements have been turned into a racing car, big enough for Malte to sit on. Behind the car is a snippet of the large raffia zoo basket.

A medium and a large wool guard are placed on top the cupboard from Oliver Furniture, which was bought second hand and fits right in.

Pictures and little paintings are saved on the pinboard that Malte's mother made years ago, using a masonite board and covering it with linen. The MODU elements on the floor are transformed into a rocket.

Above the shelf hangs a 'Babar a 50 Ans' poster, below – on the floor – is a giant animal puzzle.

Books, little animals and toy cars are placed on the shelf from Montana. A robot lamp is used at night time and during the night, together with the mushroom lamp that is placed by the bed.

Also seen here: A small navy blue suitcase and a large yellow suitcase.

"Adding wallpaper was a spontaneous decision but ended up becoming our reference for everything else in the room."

– Mette, Malte's mom

Storage baskets and a bench with storage under the seat are placed in a corner of the room. This is where most of Malte's toys are kept when not in use.

In front, MODU elements are put together to create a balance board, which is fun to sit and to stand on and promotes mobility and balance.

The old built-in cupboard has been turned into the loveliest little nook. A soft wall-to-wall rug, MODU elements turned into a small bench and a light on the floor give this space a cosy feeling. Malte loves to spend time in here.

The WeDoWood table and chair set is made from bamboo, and was also found second hand.

The small mushroom lamp gives a warm light shining bright enough to read Okker Gokker Gummi Klokker and other books at night time.

MODU elements are used as a little step so that Malte easily can get in and out of his bed.

The papier-mâché bear hangs beautifully above the green door that opens up into the nook. The wall is painted with colour "Viggo", and the door is painted with "Greenpoint". Both from Flügger.

"Seeing the house for the first time, I instantly envisioned a cosy little nook in the built-in cupboard."

– Mette, Malte's mom

A rocket? Or a space ship? The MODU elements can be put together exactly how you like, offering endless possibilities to play.

The William Morris wallpaper was a leftover roll that Malte's mother spontaneously decided to add to one wall in the room.

Loving the colours, this wallpaper became the main reference as Malte's parentes continued to decorate his room.
